The Building Blocks of Writing-

From the beginning of time, man has loved stories. They have been told around our campfires for thousands of years, at the side of children's beds and carried through generations to illustrate truths, cultures and individual emotions.

Although many would disagree about what makes a good story, there are certain common elements that can improve any plot. These include:

  1. PLOT which encompasses the Story Arc, the depth of the Central Conflict, the Single Dramatic Question, The Black Moment and Credibility Issues.
  2.  CHARACTERS who must have their own Character Arc, be Fictitious, be Likeable or at least Sympathetic. It may help to use a Sketch Pad device to make your characters turn from 2D flat characters to 3D individuals.
  3. DIALOGUE is a great tool to guard against Boredom. Tags are the phrases that tell the reader who said it. Dialogue has to be included with purpose or not at all. It also must be Consistent and Concise.
  4. GREAT BEGINNINGS are the way you sell your book. 35 good ideas of how to start.
  5. HAPPY ENDINGS ensure that readers will want to buy your next one. How to know where the end is and when you get there how to not beat a dead horse and keep going.
