A Jumbled Collection of Books and Ideas for LDS Women Who Know

Welcome and thanks for visiting.
This summer has been full of distractions with reunions, a funeral and the publishing of my lastest book C. S. Lewis: Latter Day Truths in Narnia, a joint project with my sister Marianna Richardson. There is plenty still to come but in the meantime, feel free to look around or go relax with a good book.

What's New?

Good stuff, bad stuff and in between. I joined a new writers group that is amazing! It is just a small group of women from my ward but it is just what I need. What a blessing!

My knees stink! I went to a specialist today that told me there was nothing he could do and that I will probably hobble around in pain until I am in my sixties and then will get them replaced- bummer! Well, there are things that I can do like lose weight and do isometrics- double bummer. I'd like to write a book about "Strengthening the Feeble Knees"- heaven knows I've done enough research but what I really need to do is to start doing the things that will help them improve.

Yes, I moved. We are in the same town but moved to a house where all the children get their own room. That part is heaven. Ironically, last night all the kids snuck into George's room and slept on the floor together. Isn't that the way? When they don't have something it is all they want and once they get it, they don't want it anymore.

Okay, so Tristi Pinkston contacted me asking for an author's interview about my new book that's out- C. S. Lewis: Latter Day Truths in Narnia.  Imagine my surprise to find out that she is already reading it when I haven't even received my first copy yet. Maybe it's just a reflection of how totally together she is. I stand in awe.

"C. S. Lewis: Latter-Day Truths in Narnia" is Here!

C.S. Lewis is perhaps the most quoted non-LDS writer referenced in General Conference. Even Shakespeare pales in comparison.  This well-researched review of his writings not only includes a complete listing of Lewis's use in General Conference and other church publications, it tells of his spiritual journey, belief system and how it compares with the fullness of the gospel.
Well, get it. Read it. Love it.

(On a personal note, I think it turned out incredibly well. My sister Marianna Richardson and I wrote it together. The terrifying part is that she was called on a mission to Brazil so she wasn't available for the final edit, but I think it turned out great anyway.)

Don't Forget about Edersheim

Marianna and I first got together when she sent me her manuscript on Alfred Edersheim. His history and research into ancient Jewish custom, the temple and its influence on the Savior's life have been used by B. H. Roberts, Talmage, McConkie and many church leaders. Years of research went into this short book which concisely reviews the most significant points in Edersheim's voluminous writings. It is a fascinating read and will open your eyes to many things you never thought of.

Have you read "The Crayon Messages: A Visiting Teaching Adventure" ?

This is my first novel and I so believe in it. The story is poignant and real even if it is fiction, because it illustrates so many of the struggles we all face as mothers, visiting teachers, friends, sisters and women. In the story Cath moves into a new ward and is given the worst visiting teaching route ever with a bunch of inactives and a companion with a sleep disorder that makes it impossible to guess when she is awake. Read how Cath's sleeping companion wakes her up to a whole new world of possibilities. A fun and fast summer read that will make you so happy you are you and want to even be better.
